Hollywood’s elite set out to outdo themselves every October with the glitziest, most ornate, funniest, and yes, most viral Halloween costumes. Americans are spending an average of $100.45 on their goulish preparation. Since celebrities are already experts in metamorphosis and have access to the best hair and makeup artists, it is reasonable that they would go all out for a holiday where dressing up is encouraged.
We are used to watching celebrities in designer outfits but now we will see them venture outside of their comfort zone and take on a whole different role for Halloween, frequently paying homage to iconic moments in pop culture, such as popular television characters, vintage movie classics, or musical superstars.
Let’s take a look at some of our favorite former celebrity costumes before we see what the stars have in store for us this fall. You might even get some inspiration for your own Halloween costume this year without spending too much on Halloween costumes, from Heidi Klum’s radical makeovers to Kylie Jenner’s trip to the dark side to Rihanna’s fond memories of her youth.
10 Best Celebrity Halloween Costume
Following are the top 10 best celebrity Halloween costumes
Kristen Bell as Elsa
The famed “Frozen” voice actress Kristen Bell managed to dress up as Anna’s sister Elsa TWICE for Halloween! For Halloween, one of Bell’s daughters was dressing as Elsa, and she wanted her mother to follow suit. “When your daughter demands you BOTH be ELSA for Halloween… you GRIN AND FORKING BEAR IT,” she captioned a photo on Instagram. Although the gown itself isn’t particularly impressive, the actress’s expression says it all.
Nicki Minaj as Harley Quinn
By 2019, Harley Quinn had undoubtedly become one of the decade’s most overused Halloween costumes, but Nicki Minaj managed to keep it feeling new. The rapper turned it into a couple’s costume with the help of her husband Kenneth Petty, who played the Joker.
The comic book character’s distinctive candy-colored pigtails and the iconic “Daddy’s Lil’ Monster” tee made Minaj the obvious center of attention as she wore it with a pair of high-waisted booty shorts. Of course, she also swung a baseball bat bearing the words “Good Night” on it.
Beyoncé as Barbie
This is a perfect example of the kind of celebrity costume we sometimes feel like they were just designed for. The Knowles/Carter family went all out in 2016, masquerading as some of history’s most well-known dolls. Queen Bey dressed as a vintage Barbie complete with a box, while her husband Jay-Z naturally wore a Ken costume. When she emerged from the box, she was dressed in an incandescent pink furry coat to complete the appearance. She was wearing a black and white chevron-tattered body suit. What more could we possibly want?
Lizzo as a DNA Test
A DNA test just revealed that Lizzo is 100 percent that b*tch! For the singer and rapper, 2019 was a fantastic year, and “Truth Hurts” was one of the biggest hits. It was therefore appropriate that she decided to dress up as a playful homage to the words of her song for Halloween. She appeared to be a personification of a DNA test when she posted this video to her Instagram account with the message, “IDK y’all… this year for Halloween I decided to not wear a costume.” The funniest Halloween costumes are consistently current and clever.

Neil Patrick Harris & Family as the Cast of “Star Wars”
If you can’t include your young children in your elaborate family Halloween costumes, what’s the point of even having them? Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, an attractive celebrity couple, dressed up their twins like Luke and Leia Skywalker, another set of twins from a galaxy far, far away, in 2015.
By dressing up as Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi, they increased the pleasure. The result was genuinely rather spectacular while also being charming. These two are masters at couples' costumes, even when they don’t have kids with them. In 2018, they dressed as Westley and Inigo Montoya from “The Princess Bride” — which, incidentally, was the SECOND costume theme of the year.
Kelly Clarkson as Winifred Sanderson
On a 2019 episode of her daytime talk show, Kelly performed “I Put a Spell on You” while dressed as Bette Midler’s character Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus. Our preferred celebrity and our preferred Halloween film? Please, yes!
Alyson Hannigan and Her Family
Alyson Hannigan, an actress, and her husband Alexis Denisof upheld the Halloween custom of trick-or-treating in style. The couple dressed as Leprechauns in coordinated all-green clothes, with older daughter Satyana dressing as a rainbow and baby Keeva as the jug of gold at the end.
Paris Hilton: Sailor Moon
Hilton dressed up as Sailor Moon, one of the most well-known anime characters, complete with a bejeweled dress and knee-high boots. Carter Reum, the woman’s husband, appeared as Tuxedo Mask, the love interest of Sailor Moon.
Blake Shelton as a Chicken
For a 2013 episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon; Blake Shelton, Chris Tartaro, and Nick Offerman dressed as The Chickeneers while wearing chicken costumes. Naturally, they sang “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers.
The Halloween king, Heidi Klum, must be at the top of any list of famous people in costumes for the event. She has worn several iconic costumes throughout the years, and her captivating worm outfit from 2022 was no exception.
Fans and fashion enthusiasts will never forget these ten iconic Halloween outfits. These celebs demonstrated true Halloween spirit and costume artistry with lavish transformations and careful attention to detail. We can only speculate about the intriguing combinations that the next celebrity Halloween costumes will have as we excitedly await their release.
