Known for its softness, coziness, lightweight, good insulation, premium quality fabric, and extravaganza, a cashmere scarf has always been an unforgettable winter apparel. Cashmere scarves are likely going to stay ahead of all the winter apparel this year. Thus, this blog will share ways to carry a cashmere scarf. Before moving on, we will first discuss what cashmere is, how it’s made and why is it a luxury. Read the blog till the end to explore ways to wear a cashmere scarf.

What is Cashmere and How it’s Made?

Cashmere is a wool which is extracted from the undercoat of the Kashmiri goat mainly found in Kashmir, China, Nepal, Turkey, Tibet, Mongolia, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq and Central Asia. The cashmere extracted from Changthangi goats in the Ladakh region of Kashmir is considered the finest, purest, and superior among all others. The Changthangi goats are found 14000 feet above sea level and can survive in extreme temperatures of -40 degrees Celsius which is below freezing. Hence, their warm and soft hair covering their undercoat helps to protect them against the harsh climate.

When the winter season ends and springtime arrives, the Kashmiri/Changthangi goats find the wool and hair burdening on their bodies which leads them to shed it by rubbing against rough surfaces. Experienced herders and professionals bring combs and other tools to comb the bodies of Kashmiri goats and collect the fallen hair manually.

To make scarves or shawls from the collected Cashmere, goes through several stages and processes which are stated as follows:

Sorting: The collected cashmere hair is sorted by separating the soft undercoats from the hard ones. It is done through machines or manually by the labour force.

Cleaning: the collected hair is cleaned to remove dirt or impurities.

Dyeing: the cashmere fibre is dyed into different colours and its softness and good quality allow it to exude bright colours.

Spinning: This process spins the cashmere fibre into yarn, to make it a thread, either through machinery or manually.

Weaving: the threads of the cashmere fibres are now weaved together in the form of a solid piece of cashmere fabric, such as scarves or shawls.

Why Cashmere Is Considered A Luxury?

Cashmere fabric is expensive and considered a luxury because one Kashmiri/Changthangi goat can produce 70 to 400 grams of cashmere fibre. Therefore, 3 to 4 goats’ wool is needed to make one piece of cashmere scarf 200 cm in length and 100 cm in width. Moreover, Kashmiri goats are rare and the collection process of the cashmere fibre is costly, which makes cashmere expensive and luxurious.

Ways To Carry A Cashmere Scarf

There are several ways to style a cashmere scarf, from wrapping it around to just putting it on your shoulders, you can choose to wear it in any way you like, but it mostly depends on what you choose to display more, your outfit or your cashmere scarf, or both simultaneously. Therefore, you should go ahead with the option that suits your outfit and matches your preferences. I know it is the most awaited and exciting part of the blog, so hold your breath before you dive deep into styling a cashmere scarf.

The Center Loop

This is one of the most common and simplest ways to carry a cashmere scarf. All you have to do is double your cashmere scarf equally, in a way that both ends of the scarf are in one hand and the loop is in the other. Then place the doubled scarf at the back of your neck in a way that it falls equally at the front. Now hold the ends of the scarf pass them through the loop and adjust it according to your preference. Place the loop right below your collarbone. You can style your cashmere scarf like this if you are wearing a long or a leather trench coat, as it will uplift its look. Moreover, it makes carrying the cashmere scarf easy especially when you are out.

The Snood Scarf

This style of wearing a cashmere scarf comes with wrapping it around your neck only. Start by placing one end of your scarf right below your collarbone and wrap the loose end twice around your neck. Then ruffle both ends in the loop of the scarf tightly so that it doesn’t loosen or open. This will look appropriate with a sweater, shirt, midi or a sweater dress. If you feel cold around your neck and want to cover it with a cashmere scarf rather than burdening your neck with a turtle neck sweater, then wrap it around your neck and walk down the streets confidently.

Loop Around The Neck

You must have seen people wearing their cashmere scarves in this way around you very often and will find the same on the internet. First, place your cashmere scarf at the back of your neck with both ends falling at the torso. One end should be twice as long as the other. Then loop the longer around your neck and adjust it so that the ends are equal at the front or torso. Pair it with a top or sweater and jeans to draw attention to your outfit and cashmere scarf simultaneously.

Equal At The Front

To exude a carefree style and to add maximum prominence to your cashmere scarf, then place the centre of the scarf at the back of your neck. Adjust the ends so that it falls equally on your torso. It does not require any wraps or loops, just hanging over the neck. Whether you are wearing a top, jacket, coat, midi or mini dress, it will blend with every outfit. Moreover, this is a unisex style of wearing a cashmere scarf. Hence, men can wear it like this with a fitted shirt, top, jeans, coat or jacket. I would suggest that if you are tall and wearing a plain and light-coloured outfit, then definitely carry your cashmere scarf like this.

The Knot

Women are free to wear their cashmere scarves in this way as it suits them only. Start by placing the centre of the cashmere scarf at the back of the neck. Then take one end of the scarf and tie it with the other making a knot. Adjust the knot to make the ends equal. Finally, drag the knot to either the right or left side of your collarbone. This is a versatile way to carry the cashmere scarf and will elevate the look of any outfit. Moreover, the feminity and elegance expressed by carrying a cashmere scarf this way are unparalleled.

The Wrap Over

If you have a colorful and vibrant cashmere scarf that can appeal to anyone, then wrap it all over your body and let it do the talking. Just hold one end of your cashmere scarf and toss it behind your shoulder. Then wrap the other end of the scarf and place it on the same end of the scarf. It will not only make heads turn around but also keep you warm and protect you from the chilly breezes. Avoid wrapping your cashmere scarf if you are wearing a coat or jacket, rather wrap it over if you are wearing a loose or fitted top and jeans, or a midi or a mini dress.

The Wrap Over

Cover The Front

This looks similar to a handkerchief hanging at your torso, but trust me, it looks exquisite and a bright coloured cashmere scarf would state your look. Place the scarf around your neck with one end twice as long as the other. Wrap the longer end of your cashmere scarf around your neck and adjust the ends to make them equal, exactly like the ‘loop around the neck’ style stated earlier in the blog. Then drag the loop of your scarf and spread it on your torso in an inverted triangle shape. Tuck in both ends of your scarf under the spread-out part of the cashmere scarf. You can wear your cashmere scarf in this style with a fitted plain top and skinny jeans. Although it is a unisex way of carrying the cashmere scarf, it suits women more than men.

Cover The Front

Over The Shoulder

If you have a long cashmere scarf with a radiant and vibrant colour, then don’t look back to wear it in this style. All you have to do is hold both ends of your cashmere scarf toss it behind your back and then place it over your shoulders, with both ends covering your arms. from a fitted top to a sweater to a midi, mini or long dress, this style of carrying the cashmere scarf is sure to give a jaw-dropping look and exude sensation fearlessly.

Over The Shoulder

Toss Over The Shoulder

If you wish to wear a cashmere scarf to express a carefree look and spread a free-spirited vibe, then nothing is better than carrying a cashmere scarf this way. Start by placing the centre of the cashmere scarf at the back of the neck. Then place one end of the scarf on the other shoulder. It makes it easy for you to carry out your daily errands. From shopping to stepping out to work, it will allow you to carry your cashmere scarf easily, as well as flaunt your looks.

Toss Over The Shoulder

Wrap Over The Head

This is one of my favourite and most preferred ways to carry the cashmere scarf. There are various ways to achieve this look but I will share the easiest one. First, toss the cashmere scarf at your back and then place it on your head, keeping one end longer than the other one. Now place the long end at the other shoulder and you are ready to go. It helps you to cover your ears and neck simultaneously and also allows you to flaunt your look in a bright or dark-coloured cashmere scarf. Except for coats and jackets, I would suggest all the women carry their cashmere scarf this way on any outfit they wear.

Wrap Over The Head

Conclusion

The ways to carry a cashmere scarf stated in this blog are all worth trying and are the best ones. Before opting for any way to wear it, consider the outfit you are wearing. If the outfit is attractive and requires more attention and is likely to elevate your appearance, then opt for it. If you are wearing a plain and light-colored outfit and you wish to add a statement to your looks, then carry the cashmere scarf in a way that mesmerizes and manifests people around you with its exclusive colours and design.
